(Sept. 2005) Noe Valley Welcomes New City CarShare Location on 24th Street

Noe Valley Welcomes New City CarShare Location on 24th Street
San Francisco (September 1, 2005) – City CarShare, the Bay Area’s non-profit car-sharing service, today launched a new location in the heart of Noe Valley on 24th Street between Sanchez and Vicksburg with a new Toyota Scion xB wagon. Noe Valley residents and workers will now have expanded access to City CarShare’s hourly rental service. The roomy new wagon can be picked up and dropped off at the Noe Valley Ministry?s parking lot on 24th Street where the weekly Noe Valley Farmers? Market takes place.

City CarShare, a member of the Noe Valley Merchants and Professional Association, also has a location in the Walgreens lot on the corner of Castro and 24th Streets. City CarShare forged a unique partnership with the Noe Valley Farmers’ Market whose staff will move the Scion Saturday mornings before the Farmer’s Market opens on the lot.

“City CarShare offers a convenient, low-cost way to drive that is better for the environment, and the Noe Valley Farmer’s Market is delighted to support them” said John Friedman, member of the Market Board.

The lot on 24th Street, a project of the Noe Valley Ministry, is run by American Parking Management. The Ministry makes the spaces available to the community and partnered with City CarShare by offering a space for City CarShare to rent.

Supervisor Bevan Dufty helped facilitate the creative partnerships with the Noe Valley Ministry, the Noe Valley Farmers? Market, and the Noe Valley Merchants that helped make City CarShare?s new location a reality. “It’s fantastic to see so many members of the community step forward to make this happen. City CarShare’s presence in Noe Valley furthers our continuing effort to free up parking in the neighborhood.”

City CarShare’s first call to identify a location in the neighborhood was to Carol Yenne, Small Frys owner and President of the Noe Valley Merchants and Professional Association. ?Having a City CarShare vehicle available for area residents will help alleviate auto congestion and demand for parking spaces ? making 24th Street that much more accessible and attractive for shoppers and diners visiting Noe Valley,? said Yenne.

A recent UC Berkeley study showed that City CarShare saves 13,000 miles of vehicle travel, 720 gallons of gasoline, and 20,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each day. Since that time, City CarShare?s membership has more than doubled.

City CarShare is working with Noe Valley merchants and residents to identify additional locations in Noe Valley to improve service within the neighborhood. Location suggestions can be sent to info@citycarshare.org or called in to 415-995-8588 x306.

City CarShare today has 45 Bay Area locations, including 29 in San Francisco. The new Noe Valley location is part of City CarShare?s ongoing program of providing Bay Area residents with convenient neighborhood locations where they can choose from different vehicle types, including hybrids, trucks and wagons. City CarShare has more than 4,000 Bay Area residents who rely on their low-cost access to cars.

?City CarShare is perfect for people who want to pick-up and go ? whenever and wherever they need a car ? without worrying about gas prices, finding a parking space or dealing with a mechanic,? said Rick Hutchinson City CarShare?s CEO. ?Because insurance, gas and reserved parking are always included ? not to mention cleaning and maintenance – City CarShare members prefer our service to owning a car.?

Last-minute or advance reservations can be made online or by phone for any length of time from half-an-hour to half-a-day or more. Members can immediately access their vehicle at their neighborhood location without further paperwork or delay.

City CarShare also has over 100 business members to date and is expanding its successful business service program, where small and large businesses alike are finding that car-sharing has proved cheaper and easier than owning and maintaining private company vehicles.
