JETTING OUT FOR A QUICK TRIP? INTRODUCING DASH
Giving short trips a greener ride
City CarShare’s DASH program is providing new ways for our members to plug in to carsharing. Through DASH, we are expanding our fleet to new areas such as the suburban Hacienda business and residential park in Pleasanton. All our cars at Hacienda are all-electric Scion IQs, provided by Toyota, giving an instant, emissions-free mobility option to the area.
Pleasanton, meet carsharing. Carsharing, meet Pleasanton.
City CarShare is boosting suburban transportation by introducing carsharing to Pleasanton. DASH is perfect for Pleasanton commuters and businesses. Our new Hacienda cars and locations make it easier for members to attend local meetings and run errands. The Scion IQ EVs offer 40 miles of emissions-free traveling- perfect for short jaunts to meetings, lunch dates, or for some retail therapy.
DASH FAQS
What type and how many vehicles will make up the DASH fleet?
Toyota has provided 30 out of the 100 worldwide available all electric Scion iQ EV to City CarShare for deployment at Hacienda and the surrounding area.
What are some of the features of the Scion iQ EV?
The battery powered electric four-seater vehicles do not consume gasoline or produce tailpipe emissions. Additionally, the Scion iQ EV has a range of up to 40 miles and can be fully charged in about three hours.
Where will the vehicles be located at Hacienda?
The cars will be located at various electric vehicle charging stations throughout the park. City CarShare is working with property and business owners in the Hacienda area to provide convenient locations distributed throughout the area. We expect to have around 15 locations with 2 cars at each location when the program is fully deployed. Initial locations include Schneider Electric on West Las Positas Blvd., CBRE and Nevada Pacific.
How can employees and residents become City CarShare members?
Employees and residents simply join City CarShare as members to access the DASH vehicles as well as all 440+ vehicles in City CarShare’s fleet. And any City CarShare member can share the DASH vehicles.
How will the DASH vehicles be used / what are the benefits of this program?
City CarShare’s DASH will provide battery powered transportation options to the nearly 20 percent of the Park’s employees who carpool to work to attend local meetings and run errands.
DASH will also encourage single-car commuters to use public transit, join a carpool / vanpool and become carsharing members.
Employees who enroll in the DASH program will be able to use the battery electric vehicles by the hour for a low cost.
Residents living in Hacienda will also be able to use vehicles that are located conveniently close to the residential parts of the business park. This may obviate the need for a second or third family vehicle thus reducing parking pressure in the residential area.
What are the environmental benefits of DASH?
The DASH fleet will offer multiple benefits, such as reducing road congestion by encouraging carpooling and replacing short trips made by gasoline vehicles during the workday. In fact, those are the trips that produce the most harmful “start-up” emissions.
City CarShare members have saved a total of 487 million pounds of CO2 since the organization launched in 2001.
Is DASH the first carsharing program in Pleasanton?
Yes. DASH introduced the first carsharing vehicles to Pleasanton.
Will the DASH fleet expand based on Hacienda’s results?
If the DASH launch at Hacienda gains traction among employees and residents, then City CarShare will look into providing more charging stations and vehicles throughout the city of Pleasanton and other areas in the Bay Area.
What will the Berkeley study include?
The study will focus on user response to the program and calculate the social and environmental impacts. The before-and-after study will span a two-year period and be available to the public about six months after that via the TSRC website: www.tsrc.berkeley.edu.
